My TBR List | ARC August Poll

Posted August 5, 2017 by Tina in As Told by Tina, Memes / 14 Comments

My TBR List is hosted by Michelle from Because Reading. Each month you select 3 books and have your readers vote for the one they think you should read. The poll goes up on the first Saturday, the results are announced the next Saturday and the review goes up on the last Saturday.

I ended up reading the book you voted for this past week. Night Circus was actually pretty good and I enjoyed the narration.

This month, I want to conquer my ARC August TBR.

ARC AUGUST POLL NOMINEES ARE:

Saint Death by Marcus Sedgwick

A potent, powerful and timely thriller about migrants, drug lords and gang warfare set on the US/Mexican border by prize-winning novelist, Marcus Sedgwick.

Anapra is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the Mexican city of Juarez – twenty metres outside town lies a fence – and beyond it – America – the dangerous goal of many a migrant. Faustino is one such trying to escape from the gang he’s been working for. He’s dipped into a pile of dollars he was supposed to be hiding and now he’s on the run. He and his friend, Arturo, have only 36 hours to replace the missing money, or they’re as good as dead. Watching over them is Saint Death. Saint Death (or Santissima Muerte) – she of pure bone and charcoal-black eye, she of absolute loyalty and neutral morality, holy patron to rich and poor, to prostitute and narco-lord, criminal and police-chief. A folk saint, a rebel angel, a sinister guardian.

I actually live where this story takes place so this review would be awesome. I’m just saying 🙂

Love and First Sight

Love is more than meets the eye.

On his first day at a new school, blind sixteen-year-old Will Porter accidentally groped a girl on the stairs, sat on another student in the cafeteria, and somehow drove a classmate to tears. High school can only go up from here, right?

As Will starts to find his footing, he develops a crush on a sweet but shy girl named Cecily. And despite his fear that having a girlfriend will make him inherently dependent on someone sighted, the two of them grow closer and closer. Then an unprecedented opportunity arises: an experimental surgery that could give Will eyesight for the first time in his life. But learning to see is more difficult than Will ever imagined, and he soon discovers that the sighted world has been keeping secrets. It turns out Cecily doesn’t meet traditional definitions of beauty—in fact, everything he’d heard about her appearance was a lie engineered by their so-called friends to get the two of them together. Does it matter what Cecily looks like? No, not really. But then why does Will feel so betrayed?

Seven Days Of You by Cecilia Vinesse

Sophia has seven days left in Tokyo before she moves back to the States. Seven days to say good-bye to the electric city, her wild best friend, and the boy she’s harbored a semi-secret crush on for years. Seven perfect days…until Jamie Foster-Collins moves back to Japan and ruins everything.

Jamie and Sophia have a history of heartbreak, and the last thing Sophia wants is for him to steal her leaving thunder with his stupid arriving thunder. Yet as the week counts down, the relationships she thought were stable begin to explode around her. And Jamie is the one who helps her pick up the pieces. Sophia is forced to admit she may have misjudged Jamie, but can their seven short days of Tokyo adventures end in anything but good-bye?

About Tina

  • I went with Love and First Sight because I have it and want to get to it myself and would love to see what you think.

    • Thank you so much for voting! I really love the premise of Love and First Sight.

  • I voted for Seven Days of You. I read an ARC of it earlier this year and really liked it! The main character is a bit juvenile, so if it wins, just be aware of that! I hope to read Love and First Sight soon! Best of luck! 😀

    • I haven’t heard much about Seven Days Of you so I’m really excited to get to it.

  • Saint Death because I need someone to read that, that I trust because I might want to read it, so I hope it wins, so you can tell me if I should read it or not. lol

    • I sure will! Thank you so much for voting!

I am glad you enjoyed The Night Circus. I listened to the audio book the year it was released and loved it. As for this month . . . These all sound good and bring something different. Hmm. I think I’ll go with Seven Days of You. I really like the sound of that one. I hope you enjoy whichever wins! Have a great weekend, Tina!
