June is audiobook month and in honor of Audiobook Month, I thought I would talk to ya’ll about my audiobook habits. I’m a huge fan of audiobooks especially over the last year, I found myself listening to more audiobooks then reading a physical or ebook and I’ve had some audiobook habits I thought I’d share with you.
My Audiobook Habits
1. I am not a huge fan of contemporary novels on audiobook.
I’m not sure why but I haven’t found the right narrators for a contemporary novel. I feel like once I find the right narrators, I’ll be enjoying it more. But for the most part, I’ll stick to reading contemporary novels.
2. I love fantasy, crime, thrillers and memoirs on audiobook.
When I’m browsing through my library’s catalog of audiobooks, I realize I tend to gravitate towards, fantasy, crime/thrillers and memoirs. I love listening to fantasy novels on audio because I want to learn to pronounce the words. And to be honest, I have a heard time getting into these genres if I’m actually reading them but listening to them. I really love it.
3. I usually listen to an audiobook on x2 speed.
I don’t know why, but I love listening to audiobooks on x2 speed at least on overdrive. My husband thinks I’m weird for this but it helps me get through the stories faster and I find that I have to focus and listen to the story.
4. I typically have either physical or ebook next to me while listening to an audiobook.
I like to know how many pages I have left. I don’t like to stop listening to an audiobook in a middle of a chapter so I like to have a copy of the book so I can track where I am and I can also take notes for my review.
5. I mainly listen to audiobooks while I’m at work or while I’m cleaning.
I work by myself for the most part so I tend to turn on an audiobook and listen to it while I clean the office. It also helps me pass the day quicker and I don’t have to constantly tell the Little Ones to stop yelling so I can listen. It also helps me finish cleaning faster.
6. I have audible but 95% of my audiobooks come from the library.
Sometimes, I wonder why do I even bother paying for audible when I end up borrowing most if not all my audiobooks from the library. I’m looking into the romance package on audible because my library has ridiculous long lines for some contemporary novels I want to read so I might try this package out later this summer.
7. Bluetooth headphones are lifesavers.
My husband bought me a pair of Bluetooth headphones and they’re lifesavers. I can keep my phone in another room and clean the house. It also helps me because you know most women shorts don’t have pockets and I’m clumsy so you know I might drop my phone.
8. A Narrator will make or break a book for me.
I typically give an audiobook about 1 part (this is according to Overdrive since if you use it audiobooks are divide by parts) before calling it quits. If the narrator doesn’t catch my attention right away, I just leave it and pick up a physical copy of the book. I’m putting together a list of some of my favorite narrators so you can see who I absolutely love.
