Audio Review | The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X is a book that I’ve had sitting on my kindle for a long time. It was also the July pick for the Latinx Book Club, so I figured, I need to pick this up NOW. My First Impression: I had heard through several people that I was going to love the Poet X. And it was a pretty hyped book and as you know, me and hype books have a very rocky relationship. So, I went in with the best intentions and I can say that I absolutely loved The Poet X. My Thoughts I loved the writing style of The Poet X. I was intrigued from the very beginning. I loved the way the story was told through the poetry and how it made me feel. I was happy, I was sad, I was confused, I was angry and above all I related to it A […]

(Audio Review) We Set The Dark On Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia

We Set the Dark on Fire was the June BOTM for the Latinx Book Club. I’ve seen a lot of hype about this book and I was nervous to start it because let’s be honest hype books and I are always at odds. I was truly hoping that We Set the Dark on Fire would live up to the hype for me because the cover is so gorgeous. We Set the Dark on Fire is a queer Handmaid’s Tale. (I’ve never seen/read Handmaid’s Tale but I explained the book to my book club, and they mentioned it sounded similar and I’ve seen a few other reviews that do the same.) This is set in a country where a man has two wives. One is La Primera, the one who basically the one you see out and about, the “smart” one the one that handles all operations of the household and […]

Did Say You’ll Remember Me by Katie McGarry live up to the hype? (Audio Review)

Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence, Emotional and Psychological Abuse, Sexual Assault, Gun Violence Say You’ll Remember Me was one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. I had extremely high expectations because the cover was gorgeous and the synopsis sounded like something right up my alley. I was so eager to read Say You’ll Remember Me that I put the audiobook and the eBook on hold at the library in hopes that one of them would be ready for me to read. The audiobook was actually the first one available and I will admit that I was a bit hesitant to listen to the audiobook because I’m not a huge fan of contemporary novels on audiobook but I waited so long for Say You’ll Remember Me that I decided to give the audiobook a chance. The Story Say You’ll Remember Me can be summed up by saying that it is a […]

Audio Review | We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories by Gabrielle Union

We’re Going To Need More Wine: Stories by Gabrielle Union was my first read for 2018 and I absolutely loved it. I have no idea how to properly review this so here’s a list of things I liked and what I didn’t like. What I liked: I loved how personal the narration felt. Gabrielle is the narrator and I felt like one of her friends whom she was having a conversation with. This made me that more invested in her stories. I loved how opened she was. She wasn’t afraid to say she liked sex and had sex with multiple people. And more importantly that it is okay to have sex with as many people as you want. Trigger Warning: Rape – Gabrielle talks about her rape. I was listening to her retell what happened that night and the affects it had on her now even years later and I […]

Audio Review | The Female Of The Species by Mindy McGinnis

The Female Of The Species was my pick for book of the month for the Rainbow Book Club. I had seen this book all over Twitter and had heard nothing but good things about it. I have to admit that after actually reading the synopsis, I wasn’t entirely sure how much I would actually like this. The Audiobook I listened to the audiobook for about 75% of the book because my copy expired from the library. I have to say that Jack was my favorite narrator. To me, Peekay and Alex sounded the same and at times I wasn’t sure whose point of view I was listening to. I would have to recommend that you read this book instead of listening to it. I felt like I personally missed the emotional punch of the story because I was listening to it not actually reading it. The Characters The story is […]

Review | The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall

The Conspiracy Of Us is a book that requested because the title really caught my attention. Then I started seeing this book on Lainey’s Youtube channel and knew I needed to pick up. I’ve noticed this trend where I can’t really listen to fantasy, mystery, and thrillers, sci-fi I enjoy reading them rather than listening to them. The Conspiracy Of Us was a book I was sent but I decided to listen to the audio and I’m really glad I did. Let me tell this was a ride! This was action packed and it was only dull the first couple chapters but after that it really picked up. It had a little bit of everything, action, mystery, romance and a bit of a thriller. I went into this book not knowing too much about it only that Lainey really enjoyed it. I’ve noticed we share some similar tastes so I […]
