ARC Review | K My Name Is Kendra by Kamichi Jackson

K My Name Is Kendra packs an emotional punch, one that leaves you wanting more and wishing it had lasted a little longer. The writing of K My Name Is Kendra was probably my favorite thing about the story. It felt personal and it made me care about Kendra as if she was my little sister. I felt a personal connection with Kendra because of the writing. I also have to say I was hooked on the story after the first couple pages and after that I couldn’t put it down. The only complaint I have about the writing was that at time throughout the story, I felt like it was disjointed. I wasn’t entirely sure why I felt like this but I felt like parts of the story were missing that would’ve made this a 4 even 5 star read for me. One thing I wish had been answered […]

Review | Salt by Nayyirah Waheed

Salt is a book I random found while browsing through the selections of Kindle Unlimited. I rarely give out five stars. RARELY. Salt was a five star read for me. I’m pretty sure I highlighted the entire book and I kind of don’t want to give it back actually I don’t want to give it back. I’m definitely buying this in paperback form. What is salt? It’s a beauty, it’s truth, it’s eye opening, it’s powerful and it is AMAZING. Salt touches on many subjects such as racism, gender stereotyping, and white privilege to name a few. My Favorites You broke the ocean in half to be here. Only to meet nothing that wants you. –immigrant I don’t pay attention to the world ending. It has ended for me many times and began again in the morning. Stay soft. It looks beautiful on you. Racism is a translucent skin. It […]

Review: The Perception by Adriana Locke

Two words: Max Quinn I loved Max when he was first introduced in The Exception. A good ol’ Southern boy? Uh, yeah I love them. So needless to say when I saw The Perception was going to be Max’s story I knew I needed to read it. Our characters: Kari has become the love him and leave him kind of girl. No attachment, no strings, just get whatever you need and then just leave. She’s been broken before and can’t bear to go through that again, so she keeps Max at a distance always reminding him that they are temporary. She could one day just up and leave…but she doesn’t. She’s a strong character. I loved seeing her go from a tough, strong, independent girl to learning how to rely on others. I also loved seeing her walls come down and seeing the real Kari. Max * sigh * is […]

Review: The Exception by Adriana Locke

My Review:  I won a free copy of The Exception through a giveaway hosted by Adriana Locke. I never win anything so needless to say I was really excited I won! Jada is our main character who just got out of an ugly marriage and is starting over in Arizona. She moves in with her sister Kari until she can back on her feet. “Fake it till you make it.” Jada was always belittled by her ex husband. He was and continues to tell her she needs him to succeed in life. She is determine to everything by herself. She wants to focus on herself, learn to love herself again without a man. At this point, Jada doesn’t want a man in her life it would complicate just about everything she trying to accomplish. Then we meet Cane Alexander who is Max’s (Kari’s friend with benefits) friend at dinner. Of […]
