As Told By Littles | When The Beat Was Born by Laban Carrick Hill

I’ve been on a mission to read more diversely to the Littles. I recently saw When the Beat Was Born on different lists I found for diverse reads and was once again lucky that my library had it. I mainly borrowed this book for myself. I’ve always loved to learn the history of Hip Hop and who the pioneers are. When The Beat Was Born was a pretty good book about how DJ Kool Herc early life influenced his music. I also loved the illustrations and how they related to the story. They were very colorful and I felt it brought the story together. My littles weren’t as interested in this book but I think its because they don’t really listen to hip hop or understand the history of it. I personally really enjoyed it. As Told By The Littles | Just In Case by Yuyi Morales

Just In Case is a sequel to Just A Minute. This time Senor Calavera is back to visit Grandma Beetle for her birthday and he wants to take her the perfect present. What I loved about this book was that it focused on the alphabet. I’ve been homeschooling the littles and trying to find materials that are both English and Spanish has proven to be difficult. I loved how we were able to recite the alphabet in both in English and Spanish and I felt like the Littles were able to take something away from the book. Once again, the illustrations were beautiful and really captured your eye and brought the story to life. I would definitely recommend both Just A Minute and Just In Case. Thank you again to Naz over at Read Diverse Books for recommending these to my littles and I. Subscribe to Blog via Email Enter […]
